Welcome

Hello, and welcome to the webiste of the movie "Grampy's Little Secret." My name is Joe Laslie, creator and editor of "Grampy's Little Secret." To tell a little bit about the video, first of all, the movie was made using stop animation and claymation. The first step thing that was at hand in creating this project was to come up with an idea about a story. The whole purpose of this project was to express secrets and how secrets affect peoples' lives. So I came up with an idea to make a story about a secret and very unlikely superhero. I'm gonna stop myself there and let the audience discover the rest for themselves.

The second step in the project was to create a storyboard for the movie. (You can see the storyboard here.) Next, I created a set from a section of a cardboard box, and put in certain items appropriately to create the look and feel of a nursing home of some sort. I created my characters using clay. I also used manicans and made my models using the clay with the manicans. After this step, I took many pictures to create the animation. This was a very tedious step in the project, and this might have been the most challenging part because this step is so repetitive. The final part of the project was to bring all my shots together in Adobe Premiere to edit and revise them to create a smooth flowing animation. I used some old timey music from a man named Ambrose Haley. He is the father of a friend of my parents. Ambrose Haley created a personal recording of the song used in the movie for a dear friend of his. His music has been passed down to the next generation, and my parent's friend was kind enough to let me use some of the music. I think it fits well with the movie.

My animation is only a few minutes long. In addition, time was a factor as this school year was quickly wrapping up. However, I did learn quite a bit about animation, especially stop animation. It was a fulfilling experience, though a little tedious, and I hope to make more animations when time permits. Thank you.
