History
Dr. James Naismith is known as the world-wide inventor of basketball.
Basketball was invented because James needed a game that didn't just
need strength to play the game. The YMCA Training School in
Springfield, Massachusetts, USA in 1891 is where the game was first
played at. They used a soccer ball and two peach baskets used as goals.
In 1949, the National Basketball Association (NBA) was created with eight
teams. Then, in 1967, the American Basketball Association (ABA) began. But
there were a lot of money problems so it only lasted about nine years.
