I used the Aviary Music Maker tool and found it very beneficial. I was frusturated on figuring out how to change the tempo, but finally figured it out. The only thing I thought was disappointing was the fact you couldn't add more measures to your song. However, I worked with what I had and think I came up with a pretty cool beat. If you were allowed more measures, you could piece together a whole song through this easy to use program. Below is the sample I came up with. All I basically did was fill in the bubbles for the instrument I wanted played at that point in the song. Once I got a beat down, all I had to do was fill in the bubbles to keep it going.
