Definitions
- Bandwidth- The amount of data that your internet connection can handle per second.
- Synchronization- Saving your settings online in the cloud so they can be applied to any computer you use and aren't lost if your computer is destroyed.
- Packets- The chunks of data your messages are broken up into so they can be sent more efficiently.
- Host- Where your website resides; each host name is specific to a single page and can't be duplicated.
- Path- Sends you to a specific page on a website, Like jumping ahead to the specific spot you need to be.
Extra Terms
- Extended Validation Certificate- Gives extra information to ensure you are not giving your information to a fake website.
- Phishing- When someone puts bait online, such as a fake website, in the hopes that someone will unsuspectingly give them their information.
- IP Address- A series of numbers that identifies where on the Internet network a device is. IP stands for Internet Protocol.
- DNS- Stands for Domain Name System; acts as the phone book for the Internet. It tells your device which IP address it needs to reach the desired page.
- Cookies- Bits of information collected during your visit of a webpage to help gain insight to improve your experience next time.
