To create the character for "Grampy's Little Secret" I used 6" or so wood manicans. I bought these at Hobby Lobby, along with some modeling clay. I used the manicans as a frame and support for my characters. They also had many points of articulation, so it was nice to work with characters that had free movement. I modeled the clay onto the wood manicans, so I ended up with clay figures, but because the wood manican was my frame, it was also an action figure. So the characters ended up being clay/action figures. I modeled 2 bodies for Grampy: 1 for his regular body, and another for his superhero body. I had to model 2 heads for Grampy. I also modeled the robber the same way I modeled Grampy. Because I used modeling clay, it was fairly easy to model their expressions on their face frame by frame. This was pretty important to me, because I think expressions in animations are what kind of brings it to life.
